The Importance of this Tuesday's Election

This Tuesday Virginia voters will be heading to the polls to elect there representatives to the Virginia General Assembly. This will be an important Acid Test for the state of the political parties in Virginia. Whichever party comes off strongest on election day will be the favored party to take Virginia in 2008.

The Republican Party of Virginia has suffered several defeats in the last couple of elections. With the loss of George Allen in 2006 and the Governors seat in 2005 the Republican party of Virginia is fighting an uphill battle.

For all the hype that is given to the Democratic Party of Virginia right now, they are not in the strongest position either. The DPV even with it's successes at winning the US Senate seat and the Governorship has been unable to win the Lieutenant Governorship and has been unable to take back the Attorney Generals office. As well, even under the popular governorship of Mark Warner they were unable to take back the General Assembly. Those failures really show a lack of enthusiasm for the DPV but rather a distaste of RPV.

This Tuesday the Virginia Senate is in play. For the first time, DPV has a chance of taking back the Senate. If they should take it back, Republicans will be at a large disadvantage during re-districting. The Republicans could lose 4 house seats if the Democrats have control!

It is important that we support our Real Republican candidates this Tuesday to make sure we maintain control. If anyone would like to get invovled contact Adam at Adam@vastudentsformitt.com
