Senate Race in Virginia

With the retirement of Senator John Warner there is going to be some interesting developments in the political atmosphere in Virginia. The two expected GOP contenders for the seat are former presidential candidate and Governor Jim Gilmore, and congressman Tom Davis. These two vary differently in there ideology and belief.

Congressman Tom Davis, a moderate from Northern Virginia has not chosen a candidate for 08 yet as far as I know. His wife, State Senator Davis, has formally endorsed Rudy Guiliani. Does that mean that Tom is in league as well in supporting the former mayor? If so, we would not want him as a statewide candidate if Mitt receives the nomination.

Jim Gilmore while running for president attacked Romney many times. Will he support Romney in Virginia? That is a big question.

In the coming months, this election will heat up. The Virginia Presidential primary is slated for Feb. 12. The senate race will be in full swing by that time. Will either of these candidates push for a particular presidential candidate in Feb. hoping to also receive help in return during the election season in the fall?
