An "Exceptional" Candidate for President

The Romney campaign launched a new ad, titled Exceptional. It's points are simple yet true.

"Immigration laws don't work if they're ignored. That's the problem with cities like Newark, San Francisco and New York City that adopt sanctuary policies. Sanctuary cities become magnets that encourage illegal immigration and undermine secure borders. As Governor, Mitt Romney didn't wait on Washington. He acted to make our immigration laws work."

A quick look at Mitt Romney's record shows how he supported a strong, legal immigration system:

- In December 2006, Governor Romney Signed A Memorandum Of Agreement With The Federal Government Deputizing State Troopers To Enforce Immigration Laws.
- In June 2006, Governor Romney Announced That He Would Seek A 287G Agreement With The Federal Government.
- Governor Romney Opposed The Issuance Of Drivers' Licenses To Illegal Immigrants.
- Governor Romney Fought Efforts To Weaken Massachusetts' English Immersion Law.
- In June 2002, Mitt Romney Said "The Approach Of English Immersion Is One That I Support. ... I Would Make English Immersion The Educational Norm For All Non-Native English Speakers."
- Governor Romney "Would Move To Deny Some Federal Money To Cities Which Declare Themselves 'Sanctuaries' For Illegal Immigrants."

Those are some great credentials. And as Mitt said later in the ad, "Legal immigration is great. But illegal immigration, that we've got to end. And amnesty is not the way to do it."

Mitt Romney has the right ideas on the immigration issue. He understands that illegal immigration is a National Security issue. Beyond that, why should we give rights to illegal immigrants, while hard-working, legal immigrants are waiting at the borders to enter. At the same time, he understands that we are a nation of immigrants. Mitt would no longer allow the Democrats to hijack the issue of immigration by calling conservatives "nativists". Mitt Romney will support a strong, legal immigration system that works to integrate new members of America into American Society.
