Convention in Virginia Will Help Republican Presidential Nominee
On Saturday the State Central Committee of the Republican Party of Virginia voted to hold a convention to choose the nominee for the U.S. Senate in May of 2008. The obvious benefit to holding a convention will be to keep fighting that would otherwise be public in a primary in house. This should keep the destructiveness that an open primary can have on a party contained at least through 2008.
The Republican nominee for President will benefit greatly from this. The RPV will not be destroyed after having a convention and will otherwise keep the Republican candidate on a higher road because they will not have to come into a state where the party has just beat itself up. Virginia is a state that will be in play for both parties in 2008 so the Convention is an excellent idea.
